These two different expressions are used in this prophecy. It says, “A child will be born,” but it also says, “A son will be given.” The distinction is intentional and beautiful. Jesus did not come into existence at the moment of His human birth. He is eternal-the everlasting Son of God. He was not born as the Son; He was given as the Son. Yet in human history, He was born as a child.
